DEVILS GET THEIR DAN
The Solent Devils continue to build their new roster for the 2026/27 NIHL 1 South season tonight with the announcement of their 20th player!
Joining the squad, the Solent Devils are excited to announce the return of British Utility Man Dan Lackey!
Lackey’s 2025/26 season saw him reduce his role to account for his new commitments off the ice as well as injuries. This did not stop him from being a big part of the team! Lackey still stepped up in big moments late in the season fitting into a defensive role and an offensive role and even netted some goals!
A staple in the Devils locker room, this season, the leader returns to help push the team further while also providing some experience and advice to the newer and younger players!
Signing Interview:
After signing, we sat down with Dan Lackey to discuss the challenges ahead,
What are your thoughts on returning to the Solent Devils for the 2026/27 season?
I am looking forward to getting back on the ice! It’s been a long and great summer! Can’t wait to get back on the ice with the lads!
Last season was a challenging one for the team, what do you think the team learned last season and was there anything you learned as a player?
The teams in a bit of a transition with a lot of the older guys getting older or retiring, I almost did! But it’s a great opportunity for the younger lads to step up and fill roles & make an impact! Last year it was a lot of learning and developing for them, this year they can make it happen!
At the Solent Devils Presentation Evening, you were awarded the Shane Clacy Award, what does it mean to you to be recognised for this award (especially after a challenging season) and what do you plan to take from it going forward on and off the ice?
For those that know what the Shane Clacy award is, it means a huge amount to a lot of people at the club! So to be recognized for my commitment, it’s honor! To be honest, there’s not a lot i’ll change, keep doing what I do to help the team get the best results we can and push on!
The league continues to push the competitive bar, as a leader, what do you think the devils greatest strength is heading into the new season?
The league is looking strong this season, the top teams have all added some good and experienced bodies! The Devils though, we just stick together, it’s a solid and loyal core and that helps with stability. It makes it a lot easier for new guys to come in, as we all help out with drumming in what is expected.
Last season saw a lot of younger players rise through the ranks and step up to the big league! What did you see from the younger players?
As per the question, lots of learning! Younger guys taking PP and PK minutes from the older guys, younger guys matching points of older guys, it’s promising for this season!
Finally Dan, What is your message to all of the Solent Devils fans?
I can’t wait to see you all, get some W’s and have a drink (coke of course) in the pub after!!! You are what makes the club what it is!
Dan Lackey will continue to wear #9 for the Solent Devils this season. Lackey is looking for a player sponsorship! If you are interested, please get in touch at devilssupporters@outlook.com
