Solent Devils 2026/27 Player Signing – Joshua Martin

JM88 IS BACK FOR THE DEVILS

The Solent Devils continue to build their new roster for the 2026/27 NIHL 1 South season tonight with the announcement of their 21st player!

Joining the squad, the Solent Devils are thrilled to announce the return of British Forward Josh Martin!

Martin’s 2025/26 season saw him return to playing after a short break. It was also his return to the Devils and NIHL 1. He wasted no time finding his spot in the lineup, bringing a physical edge and getting on the scoresheet night-in and night-out making him a quick fan favourite.

Martin stepped up during the teams injury struggles and became a key part of the special teams and overall gameday line-up. Josh finished his season at a point-a-game! 11 Goals and 7 Assists for 18 Points also meaning that Martin finished 2nd in goals, 8th in assists and 4th in points on the team while only playing a small pool of games!

This season, Martin looks to maintain his form and progress on the team as he returns to the Devils locker room!

Josh Martin will continue to wear #88 for the Solent Devils.

Solent Devils 2026/27 Team Signing – Bench Staff

BENCH STAFF RETURN

As the Solent Devils continue to develop their new roster for the 2026/27 NIHL 1 South season, its important for the team to establish a stable and reliable back bone. With that, the Solent Devils are pleased to announce the return of 3 key members of our off ice team!

Joining the squad, the Solent Devils are happy to announce the return of the following:

Bench Coach Mark Duffy returns to back the boys!

Last season saw Duffy call time on his ice hockey playing career but he is only just getting started in his coaching endevours!

This season will be Duffy’s second full season as dedicated Bench Coach! He has developed from on-ice teammate to bench support and has helped the team stay focused and perform their best, offering a different angle of support and ideas to coinside with the Head Coach (Alex Murray).

Team Medic Berni Martin brings the edge!

In addition, Berni Martin from McTimoney Chiropractic re-joins the team as Team Medic to aid the team in injury recovery and prevention!

Last season, Berni juggled the teams injuries and helped provide timelines and plans to help the boys get back on the ice! She also adapted to learning new injury profiles with the additions of other players later in the season.

Equipment Manager Ben Powell keeps the team in order!

Ben Powell returns joins the team as their equipment manager for his third season on the Devils bench! Powell repairs, prepares and maintains the teams many pieces of equipment from waterbottles to helmets, sticks and skates to allow the team to maintain focus on the game and performing their best!

Solent Devils 2026/27 Player Signing – Charlie Wedge

WEDGE IS BACK

The Solent Devils continue to develop their new roster for the 2026/27 NIHL 1 South season tonight with the announcement of their 19th player!

Joining the squad, the Solent Devils are thrilled to announce the return of British Forward, Charlie Wedge!

Wedge’s 2025/26 season was cut short due to injury but he still managed to leave an impact finishing the NIHL 2 season with 18 points in 9 games! (a goal and an assist a game) and in NIHL 1 finishing half-a-point-a-game! His performances and work-ethic earned him a contract which saw his National League Debut playing 3 games for the Milton Keynes Lightning alongside former Devil, Elliot Lewis.

Now, the 23 year old looks to return to continue his development and build on his performances in the 2026/27 season.

Charlie Wedge will continue to wear #22 for the Solent Devils.

Solent Devils 2026/27 Player Signing – Connor Hutchison

HUTCHISON ANSWERS THE CALL

The Solent Devils continue to build their brand new roster for the start of the 2026/27 NIHL 1 season tonight with the announcement of their 18th squad member!

Forward Connor Hutchison answers the call, joining the squad to assist the team when he is needed in September!

The 2025/26 season saw Hutchison become an unsung hero, stepping up and playing bigger minutes in a variety of playing positions. Connor stepped up as a defenceman after the team’s spell of injuries and became a stable back-bone night in and night out, even chipping in offensively and guiding the younger players on the team.

At the end of last season, Hutchison announced that he will be stepping back from hockey to focus on his family commitments. After discussions, this season, Connor rises to the occassion and challenges ahead, signing on to help the team in a reduced role.

After signing, we sat down with Connor Hutchison,

What are your thoughts on returning to the Solent Devils for the 2026/27 season?

It was a tough decision that I have made this summer and I’ve spoke to Alex a lot and we’ve come to a decision that I will be coming back on a part time basis to help out!

Last season was a challenging one, one which saw you answer the call and become a flexible player playing multiple positions during the year. What aspects are you planning to take from last season to build on for your time this upcoming season?

Last year was very challenging and a tough season with a lot of injury’s and I stepped up into the role of playing D for the second half of the year which I actually really enjoyed!
My goals for this upcoming season is just to help out as much as I can!

Finally, What is your message to the Solent Devils fans?

You might not see me every week but when I’m around you’ll definitely notice me giving 100%, like you fans do every week!

Solent Devils 2026/27 Player Signing – Kyle Goddard

GODDARD’S GREAT RETURN

The Solent Devils continue to build their brand new roster for the 2026/27 NIHL 1 season tonight with the announcement of their 17th player!

Joining the squad, the Solent Devils are excited to announce the addition of, Defenceman Kyle Goddard!

Goddard is no stranger to the Devils having iced for the team for periods between 2015 and 2018 and being the nephew of Devils Legend Andrew “Chunks” Goddard! Kyle was a key part of the Solent Devils team who won the NIHL 2 playoffs!

Goddard’s career has seen him play across NIHL 2 and NIHL 1 with teams such as the Solent Devils, Basingstoke Buffalo, Chelmsford Chieftains and Bracknell Hornets.
Goddard has even played a stint in Canada for the Coldwater Falcons! His last season of Ice Hockey was 2022-23 where he iced for the championship winning Guildford Pheonix in NIHL 2. In his stint, Goddard netted 8 points in 9 games as a defenceman! Away from the ice, Kyle Goddard regularly plays Roller Hockey and has not lost his step!
Now Kyle looks to return to the ice and NIHL 1 with a homecoming back to his local club, the Solent Devils!

Signing Interview:

After signing, we sat down with Kyle Goddard to discuss the season ahead,

What are your thoughts on returning to the Solent Devils for the 2026/27 season?
What made you choose the Solent Devils?

I’m looking forward to being back! After a very long break, i’m stepping into the role to show my Son (who plays for the Solent Junior Devils) that his Dad has still got it and playing to give him someone to look up to.

For Devils fans who do not know you, how would you describe your style of play?

I always want to get stuck in and show up for the team. Continuing to play in a competitive manner and striving to push the whole team onwards.

You’ve followed the team over the past few seasons now, what have you seen from the squad and what do you plan to bring to the lineup?

They’re a great group of players on and off the ice to play alongside. As long as the energy and drive is there from everyone, then we’ve done our job.

You’re no stranger to the compete level of this league being apart of it throughout your career and also playing for the top teams in NIHL2. After taking a short break from the ice, what adjustments have you made to prepare for the challenge ahead

I’m mainly trying to convince my body that i’m still able to give it everything! Getting back on the ice and sharpening everything up. I know it’s going to hurt for a while, but I’m looking forward to it!

Finally, What is your message to the Solent Devils fans?

I’m back, I’m excited and I’m ready to work!

In addition, after locking in his 17th player, we sat down with Head Coach Alex Murray, to gather his thoughts on his latest addition:

Speaking to how this signing came around,

Kyle is someone I have known for a long time and continue to play other forms of hockey with him since he stopped ice a few years ago.

Following a positive summer for Kyle where he was impressive in our skates in June / July, we spoke about the team and I was pleased when he wanted to come back to ice!

He concluded by discussing what Kyle will bring to the Solent Devils lineup:

Kyle has a tremendous shot, which will be a useful tool in our rink. He has good hockey pedigree and a good hockey IQ. Kyles experience will help, he can play in a variety of positions and will give us the depth we need to ensure we have a successful season!

Solent Devils 2026/27 Player Signing – Aaron Taylor

TAYLOR RETURNS BETWEEN THE PIPES

The Solent Devils continue to develop their new roster for the 2026/27 NIHL 1 South season tonight with the announcement of their 16th player!

Joining the squad, the Solent Devils are honoured to announce the return of Goaltender Aaron Taylor!

Taylor’s 2025/26 season saw him continue to push the teams competitive bar as a reliable backstop pitching a .907 in the regular season. In the teams cup run and playoff push, Taylor stood up giving the team a .926 and a .927!

Next season, Taylor returns to the crease for his 4th consecutive since his return to the ice and he looks to keep being a dependable leader, something explored in his re-signing interview.

Re-Signing Interview:

After putting pen to paper, we sat down with Aaron Taylor to discuss last seasons lessons and his plan for the season ahead,

What are your thoughts on returning to the Solent Devils for the 2026/27 season?

My first thought is at least I can stop answering the same question over and over again
“So….. are you signing next season?”
I’m excited for to get back and see the boys; I’m sure Alex is doing everything in his power to put an exciting team together for the upcoming season!

Last season was a challenging one, what aspects are you planning to take from last season to build on for this upcoming season?

It was a very challenging season last year, I think we learnt that we have to be at full strength every week to pick up points in this league and unfortunately due to many different circumstances we were unable to do so. Over the course of last season, I learnt not to be too hard on myself, if things didn’t go our way, however I’m a terrible loser and a real grump to be around if things don’t go our way …. So I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise to the family in advance.

At the Solent Devils Presentation Evening, you were awarded Supporters Player of the season, what does it mean to you to be recognised for this award (especially after a challenging season) and what do you plan to take from it going forward?

To receive the award 3 years on the bounce is genuinely incredible, the way in which the fans from around the rink treat me and my family is genuinely heartwarming and one of the biggest factors in our decision to return for the upcoming season!

The league continues to push the competitive bar, as a leader, what do you think the devils greatest strength is heading into the new season?

We have a number of players in the dressing room holding others accountable and we already plan to ramp this up in 26/27 hopefully this will set us in good stead moving forward.

Finally, What is your message to the Solent Devils fans?

The fans have a weird way of knowing exactly what I’m thinking most of the time anyway, so a message to the team instead ……..Let’s get to work
