Solent Devils 2024/25 Signing Alert – Mark Pitts

Pittsy Picks Solent!

Tonight, the Solent Devils round off their squad to begin the season with the re-signing of fan favourite British Forward Mark Pitts!

The 35 year old will be joining the team for his 9th season in 2024/25.

Pitts’ 2023/24 began later than others, however Mark began to contribute from game 1, with him picking up a total of 15 points across just 8 regular season games! This means he was playing at just under 2 points per game! Pitts also stepped up where it counted most, playing in all 4 of the Devils’ Playoff games playing at a point per game collecting 4 points!

Mark Pitts had this to say regarding his return to Solent,

It feels good to be returning to Solent. The atmosphere is always great in the room. A lot of good friends are back and also lots of new faces. It should be a really good challenge.

Pitts continued to discuss how he will impact the new younger squad for the upcoming season,

Lots of youth in the team this season should really help compliment us older guys. I’ve always had a hard work ethic and hopefully can lead by example at training and in games to push the youngsters to the next level.

Mark concluded by stating his goals for the 2024/25 season,

My goals remain the same as every year, contribute in any way I can to help the team achieve as much success as possible.

Teammate and Head Coach, Alex Murray had this to say regarding the return of the team’s primary first line centre,

Naturally I’m delighted to have secured the re-signing of Mark for the upcoming season which I’m sure will be positive news for our fan base.

Murray discussed how he sees Pitts impacting the line-up,

Pittsy is one of, if not the best centre in the league, his work rate, skill-set and sheer grit and determination are reasons why he has flourished in his role with Solent. Not only is his on ice performances important, the confidence he brings to the team when in our line up gives even more importance to having Mark back with the team.

We are naturally short of centres losing, Ozzy, Drew and Scotty, so to have Mark back, will help balance the top of our line up.

Mark Pitts will miss the beginning of the season due to injury, Murray said the following,

Pittsy is currently recovering from an injury so will likely not be ready for the start of the season but we look forward to having in the line up soon.

Mark Pitts will continue to wear his iconic #5 jersey for the club and his jersey will be owned and loaned by The Riff Raff

Solent Devils 2024/25 Signing Alert – Cameron Buckle

BASINGSTOKE’S BUCKLE JOINS FAMILIAR FACES

The offseason has flown by and its getting very close to that time of year again!
Today the Solent Devils would like to welcome yet another new face to their 2024/25 line-up with 24 year old British Forward Cam Buckle!

Buckle brings more skill and experience to the Solent Devils forward core from the Basingstoke Buffalo where he has spent the majority of his career.

Cam has collected a vast range of hockey experience at a young age having played in the league for multiple years including 2021/22 with a short stint with the Oxford City Stars and in 2018/19 and 2017/18 both of which were playing for the Basingstoke Bison as a teenager.

Buckle also comes to us from a predominantly Basingstoke past having played with them as a junior and stepping up to play for the Basingstoke Buffalo (NIHL 2) in 2016/17 at the age of 16. Since that season he has spent the majority of his time with the Buffalo but has also played a stint with the Basingstoke Bison (NIHL National) in 2019/20.

Cam is not one to shy away when the competition gets tough with him also proving to be a playoff performer with him being a key piece to the Basignstoke Buffalos NIHL 2 Playoff Championship run last season which saw him collect 2 goals and 2 assists (for a total of 4 points) across the 4 playoff games for the Buffalo before hoisting the cup.

Last season’s regular season was also a success for Buckle with him posting over a point per game with 34 points in just 21 games in NIHL 2 causing him to collect not only the Coaches’ Player Award but also the Best Forward Award at the Basingstoke Buffalo Awards Evening.

Now with the closure of Planet Ice Basingstoke, a new opportunity to develop at a higher level for Cam Buckle.

Buckle spoke on signing with Solent,

It feels great signing for a team with a history of winning. Having been at Basingstoke for 8 years now, I cant wait to get going with Muzza and the rest of the team! Watching this team in the Playoffs last year, I know its a team I could fit in with the systems and help succeed.

My main reasons for signing with Solent were to take the step up a level. I want to show I can bring what I know I can do the next division up and help bring success to a team that expects it.

Cam concluded with a few personal goals for the upcoming season,

My personal goals for this season are to cement a place in the squad and become a key part in how the team plays. Winning a trophy or two would cap that of nicely also!

Head Coach Alex Murray had this to say regarding his latest addition,

I’m really pleased to be able to bring Cam to the team. I have been an admirer for some time and have previously tried to bring him to Solent.

His point per game average at NIHL 2 is very impressive and so naturally he was ready to the make the step up to the 1st division.

Murray continued by stating what Buckle will bring to the Devils roster,

His ability to play a two-way centre game is also important as we have lost several centres this season.

I’m looking forward to see Cam contribute at this level.

Cam Buckle will be reuniting with many of his former Basingstoke Teammates including: Harry Harcup, Tom Banner, Travis Penny, Ryan Sutton, Dan Lackey, Connor Hutchison, Charlie Wedge and Coach Jock Hutchison!

Cam Buckle will wear the #51 jersey for the Solent Devils.

Overall I felt like I got extremely fortunate with the chances I got this past season and with that I always tried to give my best and make an impact whenever I got the chance. And I don’t think that would of all happened without the support of everyone within the team. My teammates where there to give me guidance when necessary whether it was positive or negative and there always motivated me and pushed me to confident whenever I step foot on the ice.

Looking to next season, Mills concluded by saying,

As well as continuing on growing as a man and as a player on and off the ice, my goal this season is to continue pushing and getting better mentally and physically with a positive attitude and resilient mindset. Helping out Coach Alex and my teammates wherever I can. I know I can improve on this tremendously after my first season and I plan to prove that to everyone this year. Following a positive debut year in which Ben was able to make an impact on our line up when called upon I’m excited to see him progress to the next level.

Murray continued to discuss what Ben brings to the line-up next season,

Ben has good hands and hockey IQ and is adapting to the faster paced game at NIHL 1 well. With the two way he will continue to gain impactful minutes with the Devils 2 side, to enable him to be ready when called upon for the Seniors.

There is opportunity for Ben and the other younger players to make an impact on the line up this year and I’ll be looking for him to be pushing to make the roster each week.

We asked Hutchison, after several years, how it felt to lead the team from the bench,
