Devils retain Perella-Fox

The Solent Devils have retained utility player Calumn Perella-Fox for the 2023-24 season.

The 29 year old Scottish native will be entering his 7th senior season with the Devils having spent his junior career with the club.

Upon re-signing with the squad Perella-Fox spoke of his eagerness to get back at it:

“I’m excited to be back for another year and can’t wait to get going again, back with the lads infront of the best fan in the league!”

Speaking on his latest signing, head coach – Alex Murray spoke of the importance in this signature:

“Calumn is one of the most underrated players in this league, he is a genuine shut down player who has great defensive awareness in his own zone. He is quick and reads the game really well. I was delighted at how he adapted when moving back to defence. Foxy formed a great partnership with Coley and I will be looking for the same level of performance next season”

Speaking on his transition back into D last year, the former Wightlink Tiger spoke of his enjoyment in the change

“It felt good going back to D, even though I enjoyed playing forward and getting to score a few goals, I feel like I really found my feet again in D hopefully I can keep that going this year.”

Perella – Fox scored 11 points in 31 games, in cup and league, however there is some unfinished business after missing the play offs last season:

“there is definitely unfinished business with the playoffs. I was gutted to miss it this year, it’s what we all play for each year and the boys played so well, it was hard not to be apart of it, I look forward to getting back to the finals weekend this season”

Calumn will continue to wear the #44 jersey and Paul and Jan Baverstock are pleased to continue thier sponsorship of his shirts for the upcoming season.

I am very excited to be returning to Solent, it’s a great club where I feel so comfortable playing. The fans are amazing and all the staff and players will do anything for you and are a great bunch of people.

It will be great to have a full season with Solent this year and see what we can do as a team, we have lost some big names to retirement but that will bring spots for younger guys to prove themselves and I am excited to pass on some knowledge to those guys and help them to become the players I know they can be.”

The British born forward also reflected on his performance and line mates

I was really happy with my points per game last season and felt we clicked really well as a line. Hopefully I can continue my production and help the team to win big games this year as well. I Can’t wait to hear you noisy Devils fans and hopefully lots of singing along to Country Roads

Speaking about his latest signing, head coach Alex Murray spoke of the importance of retaining Osman:

Steve is an elite player at this level, and has the stats and performances to back that. I was really pleased when Ozzy expressed and interest to return given the commute he has to make each week.

Ozzy will be a senior figure in our room and will help pass on his experience to the younger players as we look to remain in the hunt for trophies

The Damp Group Bristol will continue with their shirt sponsor this year and Steve will wear the number 83 jersey.

Head Coach Alex Murray, spoke of the importance in retaining his captain:

“Coley is an important piece of our core that has seen us been one of the most successful defensive cores in the last 4-5 years! With the changes in our line up, it was important to get Alex back to lead our defence in this up and coming season”

With brother Chico retiring, Alex, who was awarded Defenceman of the year, spoke how this year will be different in many ways:

“Well it won’t be the same that’s for sure, playing along side him since 5 years old has of course brought us close together. It’s a shame as he’s year after year performing as one of the top goalies in the country. The car journeys won’t be the same, we’ll definitely miss him but times have to move on and I’m sure Muz will find a suitable replacement to give us the best chance of competing at the top.”

Returning to Solent for another season was an easy choice for me, happy to be coming back and can’t wait to get started
