Solent Devils 2025/26 Player Signing – Rory Martin-Edwards

SHOT STOPPER RE-SIGNS ON SOUTH COAST

Tonight, the Solent Devils continue to add to their competitive 2025/26 roster by announcing another player!

This time around, the Solent Devils add with the re-signing of 23 year old British Goaltender #50 Rory Martin-Edwards!

The 2024/25 season saw Martin-Edwards step up and play a career high in games for Devils with 11 games started and 15 games played, 8 of which were wins!
Rory finished his senior season with .906 Save Percentage and 2.95 Goals Against Average saving 355 shots out of 392.
This saw RME finish 8th in the league for Save Percentage.

Martin-Edwards’ season also saw him play for the Devils NIHL 2 team where he had a .909 Save Percentage saving 442 shots of the 486 faced across his 10 games played.

Now, Rory re-joins the Solent Devils to continue building on the progress the team made last season!

We sat down with Rory to ask him a few questions ahead of the 2025/26 season:

We asked RME what were his thoughts on being back with the Solent Devils for his 5th consecutive season?

I’m really pleased to be back with Solent for the 2025/26 season.
The Devils have always felt like home to me — the team, the coaching staff, and the fans create such a great environment to play in.
It was an easy decision to return. I believe in what we’re building here, and I’m excited to be part of a group that’s pushing to achieve even more this season!

We followed this response up with the following, “Last season saw you be apart of a career high in games for the Devils, what was your favourite moment and what did you learn from the 2024/25 season?”

My personal highlight of the 2024/25 season was definitely the win against Chelmsford at the start of the season.
It was a huge team performance, and the energy on and off the ice was incredible!
Moments like that remind you why you play hockey.
From last season, I’ve learned the importance of consistency and staying focused through every challenge. Every game matters, and bringing your best every time makes a big difference over the course of the season. I’m taking that mindset into 2025/26 and aiming to build on it!

Building off of what Martin-Edwards learned last season, we asked what he plans to focus on for the season ahead.

My focus for the new season is to be as consistent and dependable as possible between the pipes. Staying focussed and composed under pressure on the ice. Off the ice, I’m focused on being a positive presence in the changing room and helping lead by example. Whether it’s supporting younger players or setting the standard in training, I want to contribute to a strong, united team culture that pushes everyone to be their best.

Last season saw RME make some huge saves and shut the door on some dangerous chances which set Planet Ice Gosport into an eruption of noise!
Here is what Rory had to say regarding the Passionate Devils Fans,

Playing in front of the Devils’ supporters is something special.
Their passion and energy create an atmosphere that really lifts the whole team.
As a goalie, you feed off that support — it gives you that extra drive to stay sharp and make the big saves. Whether we’re at home or on the road, knowing the fans are behind us pushes me to give everything I’ve got.
They’re a huge part of what makes playing for Solent so rewarding.

Finally, Martin-Edwards concluded with a special message to the fans!

I just want to say a massive thank you to all the fans for their incredible support — it really does mean everything to us as players.
We can’t wait to be back on the ice in September, and we’re working hard to make this season something special!
Keep bringing the noise, and we’ll keep giving you everything we’ve got! Let’s make this our biggest season yet!

Rory Martin-Edwards will continue to wear #50 for the Solent Devils in the 2025/26 season.

COUNT ON CLOUTMAN

We are far from done yet!

Tonight, the Solent Devils are excited to finally reveal their next addition for their upcoming 2025/26 squad!

British Defenceman Harry Cloutman re-signs with his hometown team!

Cloutman adds additional depth and experience to the squad’s upcoming blueline.

The 2024/25 season saw Harry put up a career high in points at the NIHL 1 level!
On top of this, for the Solent Junior Devils (NIHL 2), Cloutman scored 21 points in just 9 games played!

Although keeping pucks out of the net is his priority, Harry posted 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points in his 34 regular season games with the team, placing him top 10 in points for the team and tied 2nd in points for a defenceman on the team.

Cloutman also stepped up to help the team battle for silverware playing in both playoff games and scoring 3 points across 4 games in the Devils cup run (Tied 3rd highest on the team)!

Cloutman returns to the team for his 7th senior season this September.
After signing with the team, we discussed the previous season and looked to his goals for 2025/26,

Cloutman’s thoughts on his return were as follows:

It great to be coming back for another year with the team,
for me it’s a very simple decision to come back, our room has a great bond in it which only seems to get stronger year on year!

Last season saw Cloutman step up as Player Coach for the Solent Junior Devils (NIHL 2),
delving deeper into this, we asked Harry what he learned from his time on the Senior Squad last season with this new view of the game,

After looking at some performances from last season and speaking to some of the lads,
I’ve learnt a lot from last year and hopefully I can implement my knowledge on how I can play going forwards.

In addition to this, Cloutman has taken on more responsibility with his role on the Devils (NIHL 1).
Recent seasons have seen Cloutman join the teams Penalty Kill unit which last season finished 3rd in the league, only falling to the top team by 0.16%.
Harry also lead the teams second Power Play unit last season.
Here is what he had to say regarding his increased role on the team.

Being given the ice time on the special teams is great,
it’s also great knowing that I can cover those roles for when I am needed to.

We asked Cloutman, “What areas do you believe you personally are going to focus on next season and what do you think the teams overall goal is?”
He answered:

For my personal focus,
I want to continue to better myself for the benefit of the team,
but a goal everyone has is to get their hands on a trophy!

To conclude, we asked Harry, “How does it feel to play in front of your hometown crowd and do you have any messages for the fans ahead of the 2025/26 season?”

Playing in front of the fans is an amazing feeling,
last season they only got better and better, and having a group of fans that are willing to come to the long away games to show their support is phenomenal!
I know the fans can bring the noise and support again this upcoming season.

Harry Cloutman will continue to wear #18 for the Solent Devils.

Signing again for my 5th season with the devils was an easy decision for me.
Each year at the club, it gets better and better.
I can’t wait for next season to start!

My highlight of the season was beating Streatham at home despite us being short benched!
It really showed how much depth the team has, and when big moments like this come around, everyone stepped up and got the job done!

As previously mentioned in this article, Wedge put up a career high in goals for the Solent Devils. We asked Charlie about this achievement and how his game has evolved.

It’s always good to get on the scoresheet and help the team and hopefully next season I can contribute more.

Some silverware would be lovely, alongside focusing on getting consistent results against the top 3 teams all season round.

To begin with, we asked Oli, “What are your thoughts on being back with the Solent Devils for the 2025/26 season?”

Choosing to come back to the Devils this season was the easiest decision I’ve had to make!
The past season has been so enjoyable and I cannot wait to get started again!

Last season was your first season with the Senior team as well as your first full season in NIHL 1, how did you find your first with the squad?

For my first full senior season, I couldn’t of asked for a better team to do it with!
Through all the ups and downs we stuck it out together and ultimately played for each other and for the Devils fans.

“You mentioned the ups and downs, what was your personal favourite moment from your time with the team last season?”

I believe most people would say the same that our Cup run was definitely something to remember.
Going from being counted out, to making it to the Finals, although ultimately we didn’t win, I believe we all learnt how that felt and are going to come into next season ready to get the job done!

“Your hockey career saw a lot of development and progression this past season, what is your focus for the upcoming season?”

Our focus is to bring something back for the fans! Thats the ultimate goal in any season so this year is no different, and after our near miss last seasons we are definitely more determined than ever to bring silverware back to the thunderdome!

On a personal level I believe that last season was a great learning opportunity for me, however this season I’m coming in ready to make a difference.

“A lot of the players have mentioned how last season, the fans influenced how you guys performed on the ice, how was your first experience with the passionate supporters?”

They play a massive part in our performance, knowing that we have people behind us the whole way whether it be at home or all the way in Cardiff really gives us the motivation to perform to our best week in, week out.

To conclude, we asked Oli if he had any messages he’d like to say to the fans?
Cackett said:

Devils fans, I Can’t wait to get started on what is going to be an unforgettable season at the thunderdome!
I’ll see you all there!

BANNER BATTENS DOWN THE BLUE LINE

Tonight, the Solent Devils continue to add to their new 2025/26 roster by announcing another player! This time around the Solent Devils add to their upcoming Blueline with the return of Defenceman Tom Banner!

The 2024/25 season saw Banner join the Devils after spending most of his career in the Basingstoke system. Banner’s return to the NIHL 1 level had him join a competitive team who pushed for silverware and he was a big reason they were able to do so taking on meaningful minutes on the Devils back end.

Tom blocked shots and cleared pucks to allow the Devils to finish 4th in goals allowed across the entire league! In addition to this, some time on the Devils PK saw him contribute to help the Devils rank 3rd best in the league for penalty killing, only missing the top team by 0.16%.

Now, Banner re-signs on the south coast to continue building off what he learned last season and to help in the teams drive for Silverware!

Tom Banner’s Full Signing Interview:

Tom, Last season was your first with the team, how do you think you fit in and what made you want to re-sign with the team?

It’s a good group of guys.
Everyone is so welcoming, and it really shows both on, and off the ice.
The team is competitive within the league by always pushing each other to improve and bring their best game.

I really enjoyed playing for the Devils last season, so when I was asked to sign again, it was an easy decision.

We’ve got a strong team, and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.
I’m excited to be back onboard, and ready to build on what we started last season!

Last season featured a lot of key moments which left the fans with something to remember, what was your personal highlight of the 2024/25 season?

Beating the Slough Jets in order to reach the Britton Cup Finals, especially when the odds were against us. That was the highlight of the season for me.
Looking ahead, I think we’ve got a real shot at winning silverware as we’re only going to get stronger.

Building off of this, we asked Tom to tell us what his personal focus is for the 2025/26 season:

My focus this season is on sharpening my defensive game and continuing to grow as a player. I’m looking to build on all of last year’s progress to keep pushing forward.

Banner concluded by reflecting on his experience with the passionate Devils supporters after his first season with the team,

The fans are amazing!
Their support means everything to us — thank you for being there every step of the way!
