The Ontario born centre man returns for his 6th spell with Solent, having previously iced for Basingstoke, Wightlink and Haringey. During his time in England Campbell has been a prolific scorer amassing 717 points across 15 seasons. During this time Campbell also lifted ENL South 2 championships with the Devils in 2012.

Speaking upon his return, Campbell has said he always knew were he wanted to sign

“Well it’s been a wild off season with all the league changes. So waiting on seeing what was going on was hard for everyone. But now it’s sorted and we know where the Devils stand it was time to make a decision. When Alex asked if I wanted to come back, I always had my heart set on Solent. There were a few offers out there and personal issues I needed to sort, but after considering everything, it was always going to be the Devils. The club holds a big part of my hockey career, and coming to the end of my playing career, it has to be done here in Solent. This team has gone from strength to strength in the 10 years since I first came to Gosport. And with Alex leading the way it’s just going to get stronger. The choice to come back was always on the cards, and after talking to Alex and a few of the other guys and seeing who was coming back it was a no brainer.”

Head Coach Alex Murray has spoken of his delight at getting his man

“I am really pleased Drew has chosen to return to Solent. He is a prolific goal scorer at this level and scores in the big games. I was a little worried about losing Drew, with interest from other clubs who can afford expenses, but I’m delighted Drew has chosen Solent to potentially end his playing career with.”

Looking at the season ahead, Campbell has spoken of his targets for the year

“Personally I’m looking at doing what I can to help the team and to give advice to the young guys. And help them improve in all aspects of their game. As a team we should be pushing at the top of the league, but that won’t be as easy as it might seem, as there are some teams that are building strong contenders. So it’s going to be a very interesting season. And I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”

Campbell will continue to wear the number 23 jersey
