Goaltender Aaron Taylor tops the list of signings, returning to the club in addition to youngsters Dan Shier, Will Crossley and former Wightlink Tiger, Sam Boothroyd.
Former Redskins stopper Taylor returns for his third spell with Solent, having originally started his ice hockey career with the then known Solent & Gosport Sharks in 2006. 11 years on, and Taylor is still as excited to be playing back at the Gosport Arena "I am excited to come back to where it all started for me, I am not here to step on anyone's toes but will try my hardest to help the team in whatever capacity I am needed. I am looking forward to linking up with a great bunch of guys and working with the top coach in the division."
Former Wightlink Junior Dan Shier is the second player to sign, having spent last season apart of the S&G u18's squad following the rink closure on the island. He went on to score 41 points in 12 games, including 25 goals across both u18's teams.
Speaking on signing at Solent, Shier is looking ahead "I really like the look of the team Alex has put together and I'm pretty sure it will be very competitive in this league. Im looking forward to developing my game and playing with some of my old teammates to kick off my senior career with the Devils."
The third player will sign on a two way with our current U18's squad as Will Crossley steps up for his first senior season. Although only 17 years old, Will has played U18 level since the 2014-15 season an averages 0.8 points a game at that level. Speaking on his opportunity with the Devils Crossley is excited to get started "I'm really proud and excited to be starting my senior career signing for the Solent Devils and I'm extremely grateful to Alex and the team for giving me this great opportunity.
Solent are such an experienced and knowledgeable team, I know that I will learn and really improve my game, developing as a senior player with the Devils. I will give them my all, playing my part to get the results we deserve."
Lastly is former Wightlink Tiger, Sam Boothroyd. Sam previously played league hockey during the 2015-16 season, and is excited to get back involved again at this level "I'm really excited to have the opportunity to join the Devils! The team Alex is putting together is really strong and I am hoping to help the team in anyway I can! I think this is going to be a good year for the team and hopefully we can bring some silverware to Gosport!"
Speaking on all his signing Head Coach Alex Murray spoke of the depth required to compete this season "I'm really pleased to have been able to secure deals for all of these players. Aaron provides excellent competition for Chico, and I firmly believe we have the best goalkeeping pair in the league. This will make us tough to beat every weekend. I've know Aaron for many years and I'm delighted he was willing to join when I reached out to him. Will and Dan are both exiting young prospects. My philosophy has always been about youth development and both players have exciting futures in the game, they will add speed and energy to our roster. Sam is the surprise package, and I'm delighted he has joined us. Sam asked to come out to summer skate this summer and has put in 110% every week, and has grown in confidence. He adds some grit to a young line up and is not afraid to get his nose dirty. Im excited to give him his opportunity again at this level."
Taylor will wear the number #92 jersey, whilst Shier wears #12, Crossley #15 and Boothroyd #7.
