The best way to keep up to date with Solent Devils

Solent sign Pitts

1 year ago By Alex Murray

Today the Solent Devils have secured their second signing of the day, by securing British Forward Mark Pitts.

26yr old Pitts signs, following 9 seasons with the Basingstoke Buffalo. During that time, he iced 173 times, scoring 111 goals whilst accumulating 162 assists, totalling 273 points, at 1.58 points per game. The power forward made a single appearance for the Solent Devils in 2015 because of an injury crisis at Gosport, he also scored in this match against the Invicta Dynamos.

Following his summer switch, Pitts spoke of the challenges ahead "I'm pleased and excited to be signing with the Devil's for the upcoming season and look forward to the challenges the league brings. The Devil's are always looking to push and improve, they have been doing so year on year. By signing up I hope I can play my part helping the club strengthen and achieve better things in the future."

Pitts continued by speaking about the step up from NIHL 2 "It's a welcome challenge to be stepping up a league and I feel I should cope well with the transition as my game is well suited to the faster, more physical game that NIHL 1 brings. I'm hoping to adjust and adapt quickly to the new team and there style of play and will be looking to contribute both offensively and defensively."

Head Coach Alex Murray, has spoke of his delight at capturing Pitts "Mark is a player who I have admired for many years, he is a very hard working gritty forward who also knows where the net is. Work commitments have previously stopped this move happening but I'm delighted that his schedule is now clear and he can commit to the NIHlL 1. Pittsy will instantly become a fans favourite with his work effort and commitment on the ice and I'm hoping he can hit the ground running."

The 5ft 11in Brit will wear the number 5 jersey, a shirt number held in high esteem at Solent. Those associated with the Devils know the importance of the number 5 jersey, Shane Clancy who was one of the first to wear this number for the Devils, tragically died in an accident on the way to training in 2006. Since then, the shirt has been worn in memory of Shane, and this will happen once again this season. If you are interested in being marks shirt sponsor, please contact
