Rudkin returns to Solent

5 months ago By Alex Murray

The Solent Devils have secured the services of 21 year old British forward Sam Rudkin for true 2017-18 campaign.

Guildford born Rudkin returns to the Devils for a 4th consecutive season having originally joined on a two way deal from the Guildford Phoenix. During his time Sam has iced over 90 times for the Gosport based Devils.

Speaking on his return Head Coach Alex Murray has stated his delight at securing another one of his core "Sam is a major part of our core. He has developed into a disciplined centre man who we can trust on draws and in the defensive zone. Sam is a team first guy and never gives anything other than 100%. Sam has been apart of my team since I started coaching and fully understand my philosophy and implements it to great effect."

Rudkin is also happy to return to Solent despite Guildford forming an NIHL team " It's great to be icing for another season in a Devils shirt. I have really enjoyed playing with the guys down here and I think my game has improved because of it. I'm excited to see how the new season unfolds and look forward to playing again. I think the decision to play at Solent was quite an easy one. The guys in the room are a good bunch and I think we play well together in our rink. I also think our road game has improved which was evident in the results we got from last year and that allows for an enjoyable experience. It's great that we have some senior guys on the team that the younger guys can look up to and learn from.

The British born forward continued by stating his desire to improve his offensive game to compliment his defensive game "This year I'm hoping to start the new season with a different approach to the last. I feel like my defensive game has somewhat improved and therefore look to help out more at the other end by contributing with some offence. I take pride in being a Center and look to improve my abilities within the face-off circle.

With the league restructuring Rudkin see's the perfect opportunity to challenge for silverware "After the restructuring of the leagues it was evident a lot would change and there was a bit of speculation as to what league we would play in. But now the dust has settled and we have ourselves a league to play in I think we as a team can make a push to finish towards the top of the table. It's looking like we again have a good group of guys in the room that know how to play and can challenge teams from across the league. I'm excited to get started and for us to play our best hockey."

Rudkin who will wear number 17, joins Alex Cole, Chico Cole and Kieran Annis as this weekends signings, with further announcements due in the coming weeks. Keep an eye out on http://www.solentdevils.com for the latest information.
