The best way to keep up to date with Solent Devils

Players player returns to Solent

1 year ago By Alex Murray

Today the Solent Devils have secured the services of last seasons Players Player, Mason Wild.

The 26 year old, who can play both as a forward or defence-man, will return for his second consecutive season. During the 2015-16 campaign, Wild iced 35 times across league, cup and playoffs, recording 16 points and only 14 penalty minutes.

Upon signing for the Devils, the Oxford born Wild spoke of his delight at returning to the club "it feels great, I really enjoyed last season, it's a fantastic club to play for and therefore the obvious choice for me". He continued by outlining his expectations of the coming season "I can imagine it will be a tough season, but the team has the right ethos and talent to cause some upsets along the way, and I'm really looking forward to it".

Having being unanimously voted Solents Players Player last season, Wild couldn't praise his team mates more "it meant a lot to get Players Player, especially as I was new to the team. They are a great bunch of guys and pretty much anyone in the team could have won the award".
Following an injury hit season for the Solents defence-men, the versatile Wild had to adapt his game "I've played forward most of my career, so I felt at home in that position, but due to lots of injuries in the team, I had to move into defence. It took a while to adapt, but I actually think it suits me better. I struggled to score when playing forward, but playing defence seemed to have helped that".

Head coach Alex Murray spoke of his relief of retaining one of his star players "resigning Mason was one of my top priorities this summer, and I am delighted he has agreed to return to the club. Having known and played with Mason most of my life, it was great to see how quickly he developed last year. Having players that can play at both ends of the ice, is vital in a team that plays in such a demanding league. Mason showed his maturity and adaptability to switch to defence half way through last season and never let the team down".
