The 25 year old winger, who has spent most of his career at Basingstoke, made the switch to the island last year, joining the Raiders for the majority of the campaign. Matt finished the season back in a Buffalo jersey where he averaged over 2 points a game. In 131 games in NIHL2, Matt has amassed 191 points, and Lawday himself believes the time is right to test himself at this level again; "I'm looking forward to playing in NIHL 1 again, it's a lot faster then NIHL 2 which suits my type of play, so I'm excited to get the season going. It's a big step up from NIHL 2, but I'm confident, that putting the puck in the net won't be an issue."
The Basingstoke born forward who will wear the number 11 jersey continued, stating why he chose the Solent Devils; "After speaking with Alex a couple of times I came to the decision, that the best place for me to sign this year would be the Devils. I feel excited to be playing for Solent as I know they run a good programme and will help my career moving forward. My expectations are to simply, do my job right, play hard and score goals."
Head coach Alex Murray is relieved to finally secure this signing "I'm delighted I have been able to secure Matts services this year. I made an approach last year, but matt decided to join the Raiders. I feel Solent is the best place for him to show case his talent, as we can give him the exposure and ice time he deserves at this level. Lawday is a proven goalscorer and with the loss of Norcliffe, we will look to Matt to be one of our leaders in scoring."
