The best way to keep up to date with Solent Devils

Goddard returns to Devils

1 year ago By Alex Murray

The Solent Devils have today confirmed the signing of 18 year old British Defenceman Kyle Goddard.

The Portsmouth born prospect, who joins the squad on a full time basis, started last season on a two way with the Devils and Basingstoke before moving across the pond to compete in the GMHL for the Coldwater Falcons.

Speaking on his return to Solent, the former Gosport junior said it was great to be home; "I am very pleased to be signing with the Devils this year. Having grown up near Gosport, I have always wanted to play senior hockey here. I have been to this rink to watch the Devils play from a very young age and with my uncle playing here for many years, It was only natural to come back home to where he was so successful. I feel there is a bit of pressure playing here after my uncle captained the team, as he was very respected by a lot of people at Gosport on and off the ice. I am hoping to follow in his footsteps and prove myself and hopefully be as liked as he was. This is the ice rink I learnt to play in and coming back will only bring back good memories and hopefully many more good ones to come."

Goddard continued by stating why he chose to commit to the Devils full time following his stint in the GMHL "After talking to Alex about signing with the team for the upcoming season, I had a big decision to make whether it would be a full time place or a two way position. I decided to take the full time offer as I feel this will benefit me more as its a higher level and playing and training with better players will only push me to become better and stronger and gain confidence in myself to play regularly at this level. I want to prove that I am capable of playing at this level and growing and maturing as a hockey player and showing people what I can do whilst hopefully the team continues to progress on from last years good results and do even better."

Head coach Alex Murray has spoken of his desire of acquiring an offensive defenceman "ever since Karl's uncle Chunk retired, I have been searching for a defenceman who can play the puck and contribute offensively. Karl has very similar attributes to his uncle and with a little bit of time and exposure, I believe he can develop into a very good player".

The 6ft, 155 pound Defenceman will wear the number 4 Jersey this season and has already secured a shirt sponsor for the year. If you wish to sponsor a Devil for the 2016-17 season please contact
