Alex, who picked up Defenceman of the Year at the end of season awards, will begin his 8th campaign with the Devils and is the first signing for Alex Murray's team.
After signing, Cole spoke of his excitement for next season "This forthcoming season I'm very excited, what the Devils achieved last season was incredible and I can only hope to build on that once again. I hope the core of the team remain as its the only way to build a strong foundation like the top 3 teams in the league have done for many years. I feel I've come a long way, from someone who used to sit and watch games from the bench to someone who's on the ice 30 minutes a game at least shows how far I've progressed but then that's because I've wanted to get where I'am with nothing but hard work. I'll remain very humble and continue to improve on my game, I always watch other teams and learn from the experienced players."
Speaking on the captaincy, the 25 year old defenceman says it's a role he takes very seriously "I'm honoured that for the second season I've been asked to captain again, I'm sure you can tell what it means to me. I play with my all and spend a lot of time in and around hockey constantly trying to improve my game to make me worthy of such an important role."
Head coach Alex Murray is delighted that his captain has returned "Alex is a vital piece of the Devils puzzle. I was delighted that when we spoke, it didn't take much to convince him to return. 'Coley' is so committed and passionate, that he brings every one up to his level. He demands the very best from everyone and leads from the front".
Cole has made over 200 appearances for the Devils, and was a part of the league winning side back in 2010.
