The best way to keep up to date with Solent Devils

Calder & Stoodley sign two way deals

1 year ago By Alex Murray

Tonight the Solent Devils are delighted to confirm, two way deals with two net minders for 2016-17.

Firstly returning for his third season will be back up net minder Sam Calder. The Guildford born stopper will continue to wear the number 29 jersey for the Devils having first iced for the club during the 2014-15 season. Speaking on returning to the Devils Sam is ready to continue his development ''I feel very pleased to be returning to Solent as it’s a great club to play for. I signed because I want to develop on from my performances last year in a good team environment where I feel very comfortable playing; and I want to help the team do even better this season. I want to be able to prove myself more than last season and be able to get more exposure to the senior game, and for the team I want us to do even better than last season by hopefully picking up more wins and going further in the playoffs.''
Joining Calder in challenging Chico Cole for a spot between the pipes will be 18 year old Jake Stoodley. Jake spent last season playing with the Guildford u20s team alongside Calder and has spoken on signing for Solent “I am excited to be joining the Devils as it will be my first true taste of senior hockey. I’m looking forward to progressing my career and developing as a player. I’m keen to get back on the ice, see some game time and help my new team to the best of my ability.”
Head Coach Alex Murray has spoken about the importance of two way players “I’m delighted to be able to continue with the philosophy of bringing junior players into the men’s game at NIHL 1 level. Whilst the league continues to improve so do the juniors fighting to get a chance to play in it. Sam is now ready to push Chico for game time. Sam played all the cup games last season and didn’t let us down. Consistency will be key for Sam and the more game time he gets the more consistent he will become. I am looking to repeat this process, so bringing in Jake makes perfect sense. He knows Sam well, and is willing to learn and develop; I feel Jake will continue to push both goalies to ensure everyone is performing”
Both Players have been sponsored by Short Bark and Side, with Calder wearing the number 29 and Stoodley wearing 31. The Solent Devils are also delighted to announce a pre season friendly against the Basingstoke Buffalo, at the Gosport Ice Arena on Sunday 11th September, Face off at 7pm.
