The best way to keep up to date with Solent Devils

American Baroni Joins Solent

1 year ago By Alex Murray

Today the Solent Devils have secured the services of American defenceman Mark Baroni for the remainder of the 2016/17 campaign.

The 25 year old takes his first adventure into British hockey, having finish university in New Hampshire. Speaking upon signing with Solent Mark spoke of his delight "I’m really excited about signing with the Devils. I moved to the UK to try and get more involved in sport, as it is very difficult to find legitimate competitive opportunities in the United States after leaving school. So, it’s encouraging to see that my ideas and plans are beginning to materialise. Hopefully it will be the start of something really good."

Having only previously played university hockey Baroni has an open mind "I’m not sure what to expect from the season. I expect that games will be challenging, given our current position in the table and our recent results. I guess I have goals rather than expectations, and I am confident that I can play well to reach the goals I have in mind for the team, as well as for myself."

Speaking on his latest signing Head Coach Alex Murray has spoken of his relief at securing this deal "Mark has been with us for over a month now, and I'm delighted we have managed to secure his services. During the summer due to finical restraints I was unsure wether we could accommodate an import, but when Make become available, we managed to get a deal done. Mark is a very reliable defenceman who reads the game well and has good size, he already has a good understanding on my philosophy and the systems we play, so is ready to go for Sunday"

With the announcement of Mark signing today, the Solent Devils have allowed Young British defenceman Kyle Goddard to move to the Basingstoke Buffalo. Kyle will remain with the club on a two way A Devils spokesman has said "Kyle is a young defenceman who wants to learn, but he also appreciates that he needs ice time to allow him to develop. With this in mind we have agreed with Basingstoke that he returns there in order to get the additional ice time and training required to achieve his goals"

Mark will wear the number #77 jersey and will be sponsored by Lee Murray. Mark will be down the rink Thursday night at 8:45 for a meet and greet with any fans who wish to attend.
