I have heard great things about Joe from former teammates so I’m excited to see how he settles in.”

Tonight, the Solent Devils can confirm that Defenceman Harry Cloutman has committed to the club for the 2023-24 season.

The former Junior Devils will continue on a two way with the NIHL 2 team as well as continue his coaching role with the second team.

“I’m really happy to be signing again, there is such a good chemistry in the room that it just makes you want to come back. I’m excited for the coming season and the challenge it brings”.

Cloutman who iced 25 times last season had a season ending injury after Christmas but is determined to come back stronger

“After my season was cut short it was hard knowing that in some of the games missed there was something I may have been able to add. I’m looking to come back strong this year and make up for the time lost.”

Speaking on his split role, the left-handed defenceman is looking forward to the additional responsibility

“I’ve been coaching the Junior club for the past 4 years it’s very rewarding watching the upcoming players develop through the ages. Last season my role as a coach took over some more of my time coaching the NIHL2 Solent team, I really enjoy coaching at that level. I just like to use the knowledge that I’ve gained from the Devils when coaching, which does also give me time to develop more of an understanding of what needs to be happening at all times.”

Speaking on his return, head coach Alex Murray spoke of his importance

“Harry is certainly experienced beyond his years. He is incredibly valuable not only on the ice but off it as well. He understands the game very well and we coach together a lot , meaning he can pass on vital information if I’m on the ice”.

Harry will continue to wear the #18 jersey and will be sponsored by Morgan’s Barbers again this season. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their continued support.

It will be great to have a full season with Solent this year and see what we can do as a team, we have lost some big names to retirement but that will bring spots for younger guys to prove themselves and I am excited to pass on some knowledge to those guys and help them to become the players I know they can be.”

The British born forward also reflected on his performance and line mates

I was really happy with my points per game last season and felt we clicked really well as a line. Hopefully I can continue my production and help the team to win big games this year as well. I Can’t wait to hear you noisy Devils fans and hopefully lots of singing along to Country Roads

Steve is an elite player at this level, and has the stats and performances to back that. I was really pleased when Ozzy expressed and interest to return given the commute he has to make each week.

“Coley is an important piece of our core that has seen us been one of the most successful defensive cores in the last 4-5 years! With the changes in our line up, it was important to get Alex back to lead our defence in this up and coming season”

With brother Chico retiring, Alex, who was awarded Defenceman of the year, spoke how this year will be different in many ways:

“Well it won’t be the same that’s for sure, playing along side him since 5 years old has of course brought us close together. It’s a shame as he’s year after year performing as one of the top goalies in the country. The car journeys won’t be the same, we’ll definitely miss him but times have to move on and I’m sure Muz will find a suitable replacement to give us the best chance of competing at the top.”

The British defenceman, who recorded his highest scoring season at this level last year with 7 goals and 17 assists, will return wearing his famous #8 jersey. If you are interested in sponsoring Alex, please contact Kerry on devilssupporters@outlook.com
